Rafaela batted .419, going 13-for-31 with two doubles, two stolen bases, a .968 slugging percentage and a .419 on-base percentage. The 25-year-old led the majors in home runs, RBIs and total bases with 30 while tying for the lead in hits and extra-base hits with seven.
It is the first Player of the Week award of Rafaela’s career. He became the third Boston player to receive the honor this season, joining Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu.
Rafaela homered in all three games of Boston’s sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. He hit two home runs Saturday for the second multi-homer game of his career.
He joined Xander Bogaerts as the only Red Sox players to homer in three consecutive games against the Dodgers. Bogaerts accomplished the feat at Fenway Park from July 12-14, 2019.
Rafaela also became the first Boston player with at least four home runs and seven hits in a three-game series since Mookie Betts recorded those totals in April 2018.
The 2026 All-Star began the week by hitting his first career grand slam against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. His sixth-inning homer supplied all of Boston’s runs in a 4-2 victory.
Rafaela has recorded multiple hits in five consecutive games, the longest such streak of his career. He has hit safely in seven straight games and in 24 of his 27 games since July 1.
The Red Sox are 50-30 when Rafaela records a hit this season and 25-7 when he finishes with multiple hits.
Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara was named National League Player of the Week after going 2-0 without allowing an earned run over 13 innings in two starts. Cincinnati Reds center fielder Dane Myers received MLB’s Play of the Week award for his game-ending leaping catch against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Boston Red Sox went 21-4 in July, remain undefeated in August after sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, and have now won eight consecutive series.
They're without a doubt the hottest team in baseball, and while it has been a collective effort from both the pitching staff and the lineup, star outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela has been at the center of their success.
Red Sox Announce Rafaela News
Ahead of Tuesday night's series opener against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park, the Red Sox and MLB announced that Rafaela had been named the American League Player of the Week.
Over the past week, Rafaela went 13-for-31 (.419) with five home runs and 11 RBIs.
Against the Dodgers over the weekend, he hit four of those five home runs, including one in each game, while going 7-for-14 during the three-game series.

Rafaela's 2026 Season
Rafaela is in his fourth season with the Red Sox and earned his first All-Star selection this year.
He's batting .289 across 107 games and 415 at-bats with 56 runs, 120 hits, 15 home runs, and 57 RBIs while slugging .477 and posting an .805 OPS. He also leads the majors with 27 doubles.

As mentioned, the Red Sox have been nearly unbeatable over their last 30-plus games. That stretch has vaulted them back into the thick of the American League playoff race.
Boston is 60-51 and trails the New York Yankees by two games for second place in the AL East. The Red Sox sit 5.5 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays.
If the season ended today, Boston would hold the second American League Wild Card spot and travel to the Bronx for a best-of-three Wild Card Series against the Yankees.

Ceddanne Rafaela hit his first career grand slam Monday to provide all of Boston’s scoring in a 4-2 win over the Athletics.
Rafaela thought he just missed on the slam, spiking his bat on the fly to left. Colby Thomas really should have made the catch, but he didn’t time the play very well and had the ball go off his glove as he jumped at the wall. Rafaela had hit .355 in 32 career plate appearances with the bases loaded, but this was his first slam, and it put the Red Sox in position to claim a 10th straight road victory. Rafaela, who was dropped to fifth in Boston’s lineup with new arrival Curtis Mead hitting second tonight, is batting .278/.320/.442 in 414 plate appearances.

On the swing that accounted for all four of the Boston Red Sox runs on Monday night in Sacramento against the A's, Ceddanne Rafaela thought he'd made an out.

When he finally picked his head up, though, he learned that he had actually left the building.

Incoming Hall of Famer Praises Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela
One of those young stars is outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela, who just played in his first career All-Star Game this week in Philadelphia.
While the excitement of getting an All-Star nod should be good enough for Rafaela at this point in his career, he got a little more than he bargained for when he was approached by an incoming MLB Hall of Famer, Andruw Jones.
Jones, like Rafaela, is also a native of Curaçao who also coached Rafaela with Team Netherlands in this year’s World Baseball Classic.
The moment was certainly surreal for Rafaela, as he had looked up to Jones during his playing days, most notably with the Atlanta Braves. Jones joins Carlos Beltrán and Jeff Kent in this year's Hall of Fame class.
“He’s gonna be a great one,” Jones said. “I’m just happy for him to get the opportunity to show his talent that he has. When Boston called him up, I was so proud of him, knowing how the journey took, waiting to get there. Just proud being a native of Curaçao, fellow center fielder, him winning a Gold Glove.”
The Red Sox and Rafaela will now look to carry the end of their strong first half into the rest of the season and return to the playoffs for a second year in a row.

Ceddanne Rafaela comes up homer shy of cycle
Ceddanne Rafaela tripled, doubled and singled Wednesday against the Rockies.
The hits came in his first three at-bats. He had two at-bats left to complete the cycle, but he struck out in both. One can’t help but think those at-bats might have gone better if hitting for the cycle wasn’t actually a thing. Rafaela is batting .286/.334/.451 on the year.

Ceddanne Rafaela has always been an elite defender, but this year, his offense has been on another level. He is slashing .281/.331/.722. Coming into the season, he had a .24/.284/.401 career slash line. He has seven home runs this year as well. He certainly has a case to be an All-Star, and spoke on what it would mean for him.

Rafaela credited becoming comfortable with Fenway Park and Boston for his uptick in offense. He noted that he has made it his "happy place" and is enjoying coming to the ballpark every day.
"I think I’ve learned to make this my happy place this year,” Rafaela said. “I’m really enjoying coming to the ballpark. Yeah, man. I’ve learned a lot this year. Besides baseball, I had to grow and learn a lot and make this my happy place.”
He ranks behind only Byron Buxton in fWAR, and has established himself as one of the best outfielders in the American League this year. What he does with the glove has always been important, but now that he is swinging a better bat, more fans are taking notice in his success.

Boston Red Sox outfielder/infielder Ceddanne Rafaela might not shift positions as frequently in 2026. Recently, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said it was unlikely that Rafaela would play second base this season. Due to their logjam in the outfield, Rafaela played 24 games at second base in 2025. His defensive abilities are a much better fit in center field, as Rafaela committed three errors in a little over 20 games at the keystone. The Red Sox would rather have Rafaela in center field, a position where he won a Gold Glove this past season. If he remains in the outfield, Rafaela would likely lose his second-base eligibility, which would be a bummer for fantasy managers. The elite defensive ability in the outfield should keep Rafaela in center field on an everyday basis.--Andy Webb

Betts, Rafaela headline Gold Glove finalists
Rawlings announced the three finalists in each league for the 2025 Gold Glove Award at each position Wednesday.
Managers and up to six coaches from each team vote on a pool of qualified players, and they can't vote for their own players. Their vote represents about 75% of the selection, while SABR Defensive Index accounts for approximately 25%.
Winners will be announced Nov. 2 on ESPN.
